Dr. George Carlson, PhD, LCSW-C
George is a licensed clinical social worker who has been practicing for over 25 years. He provides individual, family and group therapy for children, adolescents and adults.
George believes that the power of therapy comes through the understanding of how self-defeating patterns of behavior interfere with our ability to have a happy and productive life. He believes that focusing and building on our strengths will enhance our functioning and examining our behavior is critical to developing healthy options for ourselves and in our relationships. George encourages clients to develop different coping strategies to support the hope of change, leading to healing and growth.
George’s areas of clinical expertise include childhood and adolescent behavioral issues and school concerns, failure to launch, depression, anxiety, ADHD, surviving trauma, and post traumatic stress disorder. He also works with athletes of all ages to assist them in improving their skills and the mental aspect of their game.
George received his masters in Social Work and Ph.D. in Policy Sciences from the University of Maryland. He has advanced training in trauma treatment, child and adolescent therapy, and sports psychology. George is also a Maryland Board Approved Supervisor.
