Cancer, Chronic Illness, Grief & Loss

A serious medical diagnosis or the experience of loss can change life in profound ways. Cancer, chronic illness, and grief affect not only the body, but also emotional well being, relationships, identity, and sense of meaning. We provide compassionate mental health support for individuals and families navigating illness, loss, and life altering transitions.

Living with cancer & chronic illness

Cancer and chronic illness can bring uncertainty, fear, and ongoing stress. Individuals may struggle with changes in physical ability, treatment side effects, medical decision making, and shifts in independence or identity. Emotional responses such as anxiety, depression, anger, or isolation are common and valid.

Therapy offers a supportive space to process the emotional impact of diagnosis, treatment, and long term health conditions. Our clinicians help individuals develop coping strategies, manage stress, communicate needs, and navigate the complex emotional landscape of living with illness.

Support may also include addressing caregiver stress, family dynamics, and the impact of illness on work, relationships, and daily routines.

Grief & Loss

Grief is a natural response to loss, yet it can feel overwhelming and isolating. Loss may include the death of a loved one, miscarriage or infertility, loss of health, changes in roles or identity, or other significant life transitions. Grief does not follow a timeline and looks different for each person.

Individuals experiencing grief may feel sadness, numbness, anger, guilt, confusion, or longing. These feelings can shift over time and may resurface unexpectedly. Therapy provides a space to honor the loss, process emotions, and integrate grief into life in a meaningful way.

At Century Mental Health, grief support is gentle, respectful, and tailored to each individual’s experience. Our goal is not to rush healing, but to support connection, meaning, and emotional resilience.
