Body Image Concerns & Eating Disorders
Concerns related to body image, weight, and eating can deeply affect emotional health, self esteem, relationships, and physical well being. These struggles often involve more than food or appearance and are closely connected to identity, control, stress, and self worth. At Century Mental Health, we provide compassionate, non judgmental care for individuals experiencing body and eating related concerns.
When Body and Food Concerns Take Over
Body and weight concerns can appear in many forms. Some individuals experience constant dissatisfaction with their appearance, fear of weight gain, or rigid beliefs about food and body shape. Others may feel trapped in cycles of restriction, binge eating, purging, or emotional eating.
These concerns can impact daily functioning, concentration, mood, and social life. Over time, they may develop into or coexist with eating disorders that require specialized mental health support.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that affect individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating patterns. Eating disorders affect both mental and physical health and may require a comprehensive approach that includes medical oversight alongside therapy.
Symptoms may include preoccupation with food or weight, restrictive eating, loss of control around food, compensatory behaviors, significant body image distress, or avoidance of eating in social situations. Eating disorders often occur alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, or perfectionism.
At Century Mental Health, treatment focuses on addressing the emotional and psychological components of eating disorders while supporting healthier relationships with food, body, and self.
