Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals experience the world, communicate, and interact with others. Autism presents differently in every person and is best understood as a spectrum of strengths, differences, and challenges. At Century Mental Health, we provide supportive, respectful care for both children and adults with autism, focusing on understanding, skill development, and overall quality of life.

Understanding Autism

Autism may impact social communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and behavioral patterns. Some individuals may experience challenges with verbal or nonverbal communication, social cues, flexibility, or sensory sensitivities. Others may demonstrate strong attention to detail, deep focus on areas of interest, or advanced problem solving abilities.
Because autism looks different across individuals and across the lifespan, thoughtful assessment and individualized care are essential. Our clinicians take time to understand each person’s unique profile, strengths, and goals.

Autism in Adolescents & Adults

Many adolescents and adults with autism seek care to address challenges related to social relationships, anxiety, emotional regulation, executive functioning, or life transitions. Some adults may receive an autism diagnosis later in life, often after years of feeling misunderstood or overwhelmed.

Therapy for adolescents and adults with autism is tailored to individual needs and may focus on self understanding, communication skills, managing stress and sensory overload, and navigating work, relationships, and independence. Our approach respects neurodiversity and emphasizes empowerment and self advocacy.
